Cavapoos

Meet the Cavapoo

A Cavapoo is a charming mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Miniature Poodle. Sometimes called a Cavoodle or Cavapoodle, this hybrid combines the Cavalier’s gentle, golden-retriever-like personality with the intelligence and hypoallergenic coat of the Poodle. The result? A sweet, smart, low-shedding companion who fits beautifully into a wide range of lifestyles.

Why We Love Them

We were first drawn to Cavapoos because of their affectionate nature and adaptability. Their loving temperament, soft low-allergen coats, and intuitive personalities make them ideal family companions, therapy dogs, and emotional support animals. Whether you’re an active adventurer or a homebody, a Cavapoo is happy to be right by your side—on a hike, a paddleboard, or snuggled up on the couch.

Energy Level

Cavapoos have a moderate energy level. They enjoy daily walks, backyard play, and the occasional outing, but they don’t need intense daily exercise to stay happy. These pups are naturally affectionate and thrive most when they’re included in everyday family life.

Important to note: Cavapoos are people-oriented and can develop separation anxiety if left alone for long periods. They do best in homes where someone is often around to give them love and attention.

Training & Temperament

Thanks to their Poodle roots, Cavapoos are smart, eager to please, and quick to learn—making them a breeze to train. They respond best to positive reinforcement like treats, praise, and consistency, and are sensitive to tone and gentle guidance.

From potty training to basic commands, they pick up routines quickly and enjoy mental stimulation like tricks or enrichment games. Their easygoing, affectionate nature makes them an ideal choice for first-time dog owners or families looking for a well-mannered companion.

They’re so known for being:

Exceptionally affectionate

Naturally intuitive and emotionally attuned to their people

Friendly with kids and other pets

Health & Lifespan

Cavapoos are generally a healthy breed with a lifespan of 12–15 years. Still, as with any breed, it’s important to be aware of potential health concerns:

Ear Infections: Their floppy ears can trap moisture, so regular cleaning is key.

Heart Conditions: Cavaliers can be prone to heart issues, so we prioritize health-tested lines and regular vet checkups.

Eye Disease: Cavaliers and Poodles can both be predisposed to eye issues. CAER eye testing through OFA is something all of our breeding dogs get regular checkups to ensure we are screening our breeding dogs prior to breeding.

DNA and Genetic Diseases: Cavalier’s and Poodles can carry similar diseases, so a full DNA health and Genetic panel is completed on each of our breeding dogs.

Common Health Considerations:

While these are common health issues for Cavapoos, Pacific Northwest Doodles has intentionally bred out these issues in our puppies. Let us know if you have concerns about your puppy’s health.

Grooming & Care

Cavapoos have soft, wavy to curly coats that are low-shedding but require regular grooming. A consistent brushing routine and professional trims every 6–8 weeks will help prevent matting and keep them looking their best.

Their moderate coat means they need a little extra care in extreme weather:

In winter, a cozy sweater or jacket can help keep them comfortable outdoors.

In hot climates, avoid long sun exposure and make sure they stay hydrated and cool.

City or Country?
They’re Happy Anywhere!

Cavapoos are adaptable and thrive in both urban apartments and country homes—as long as they have people around and opportunities to play. They tend to do great in multi-pet households, with proper introductions and socialization.
